Permanent Midnight

lyrics

playing slip-n-slide on the bathroom floor
instead of a hose, I've got puke galore
you've been warned, my humidor is more than inhuman
filling it again and again and it stays hollow, a storm in the ruin
so conformist a union from what they pay and what my brain makes
a dollar is burned at the alter whenever it is the same place
a grand mal seizure of rain dance in the same hands that hold a savior
give my all for a moment to chase the now, the toll is later
the coldest labor, no love lost in this here endeavor
holding the wheel long enough to steer to never
I've got hiding places my conscience can't locate
groundhog to the grindstone the second hand rotates
a slow chase with no grace, my soul scrapes
waiting to find the bottom of this trampoline to go safe
a neck ajar, slumped against the god of porcelain
needs unsatiated, an anaconda that's engorged on them

adored the pen and now it's penance, fueling fires
this delusional fuel admired, so cruel the choir
I hear them singing to swans in the thrall of appetites
swear I had a fight now I'm leaving the war unsatisfied
so mad at my ways but not enough to change the outcome
let alone the practices, what matters is I'm now numb
a coward slumped close enough to smell yesterdays
open wounds on arms, long sleeves, lead a festered maze
a resume of people yelling, saying "yes you may"
my precious resident settles in, and the guest awaits
left to pray but God is turning a blind eye
and two deaf ears to the fears causing me to try flying
Daedalus editors sitting with zen repentant penmanship
coax a few more scripts, I'm sitting at the edge of a cliff
begging the wind to lift giving me a chance I'd never take
if I jump, will nature's forces help me levitate?

if heaven awaits, it's only for saint peter's rejection speech
and everyone behind the gate to laugh at me, remember grief?
my trembling teeth in itchy gums are not their concern
let alone the hands leading this moth to the burn
a monster can earn his keep, keeping the cage floor
full of dead presidents, this is what I'm paid for
it's not real, but was it ever? My grim cadence is syndicated
I've been away for too long, my grin's the latest
